Training student is our aim

The IMEP project has three main educational purposes.

Knowledge

Acquire knowledge about the EU procedures and functioning

Cooperative learning

The acquired knowledge must be put into practice collaborating with other student and developing problem solving skills

Soft Skills

Students will develop their public speaking skills in a democratic debate

Knowledge

The first purpose is reached during the autonomous preparation. Students will study papers provided by the European People staff about:

  1. Composition and functioning of the EU institutions: Student will have to understand the composition and functioning of EU institution (Parliament, Commission) and their link. Papers will provide the basics about the topic, which must be integrated with EU online platforms. In this way, the student will develop a basic digital expertise and a systematic research method.
  2. Procedure rules: Student will have to know all the procedure guidelines a MEP must keep during an official debate. The rules, in effect during the Model and explained on papers, are the same of the EP. During phase 2 no unrelated behavior will be accepted.
  3. Assigned topic background: Every student will have a commission membership and topic. The latter will be discussed in order to obtain a law proposal. Topics are often politic, social, and economic related and a basic knowledge is mandatory. In the papers therefore, there will be a section entirely dedicated to the topic, so that the MEP can face the debate properly.
  4. Law proposal: At the end of the Model, students will have to draft a law proposal.

Cooperative learning

This purpose is reached during the Model. The student must use its background in order to draft a determined law proposal on the assigned topic. This will help students develop their problem-solving skills, fundamental in today’s labour market. Moreover, every activity must be carried on collaborating with other members, reinforcing teamwork expertise. This method, also known as cooperative learning, favor collaboration instead of the standard seminar.

Soft Skills

The last purpose is also reached during the Model. The student, during the debate, will have to add value to its cooperative work and find a proper solution to both its group and the counterpart. This implies the developing of expertise known as soft skills (public speaking and leadership).
